Images of Blacklion and Co Cavan will be beamed into the homes of more than two million Americans this St Patrick’s Day. Footage was captured last week in Co Cavan and elsewhere across the island of Ireland for a series of short film clips, which will air on the NBC TV network during its live coverage of the New York St Patrick’s Day parade, which is sponsored by Tourism Ireland. The footage will focus on themes like culinary Ireland and our world-class food; Christian Heritage and the St Patrick’s Trail; ni2012 and the extensive programme of events and historic anniversaries taking place in Northern Ireland this year; adventure and outdoor activity in the west of Ireland; and genealogy.
During their time in Co Cavan, the NBC crew visited the award-winning MacNean House in Blacklion, where they captured footage of celebrity chef and Cavan native, Neven Maguire, who cooked a delicious trio of Irish lamb, showcasing the high standard of Irish cuisine and helping to raise awareness of Ireland as a superb food tourism destination.

The exposure for Cavan and Ireland from this coverage is fantastic; with about two million people tuning in to watch the parade on March 17, it represents a truly unique opportunity to reach a wide audience of potential holidaymakers here in the US.”
Tourism Ireland has a busy programme of consumer and trade promotions taking place in North America around St Patrick’s Day. For the first time ever, Niagara Falls will ‘go green’ on March 17 (on both the Canadian and the US sides), as will the Empire State Building in New York, the Chicago and San Antonio Rivers and the famous White House fountains. Tourism Ireland’s new ‘Jump into Ireland’ ads will also be seen by around 1.5 million New Yorkers in Times Square on St Patrick’s Day.
Arrangements for the itinerary of the NBC crew were put in place by Fáilte Ireland and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.
