The Giant’s Causeway was the location for a recent meeting of Tourism Ireland representatives and some local tourism operators. Presentations were made by Tourism Ireland about activity in Great Britain, North America, Mainland Europe, Australia and in emerging markets – updating people working in the tourism industry in the Causeway Coast area on the extensive promotional programme which Tourism Ireland has under way across the globe right now for ni2012 and in the pipeline for 2013.
Simon Gregory, Tourism Ireland’s director of markets, said: “The superb programme of new attractions, events and historic anniversaries taking place this year and into 2013 is being promoted by Tourism Ireland in 22 markets around the world to stimulate interest in Northern Ireland for holidays and short breaks. The Causeway Coast area is particularly fortunate to have so much happening this year – with the recent successful hosting of the Irish Open and the opening of the new Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre, as well as the many other tourism events taking place in the area.
“Our ni2012 promotions will reach over 100 million people – or potential holidaymakers – this year. With iconic sites like the Giant’s Causeway and the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, spectacular scenery and world-class golf, this area has so much to offer our international visitors. Our message for them is that there has never been a better time to visit Northern Ireland.”
Following the meeting, the group had the opportunity to visit the recently-opened Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre and experience the new interactive exhibition and audio tour of the stones.
