A group of international journalists visited the walled city of Derry this week as part of a fact-finding trip to Northern Ireland. The group, invited here by Tourism Ireland, included lifestyle and sports journalists from the US, Spain, Germany, Italy and Norway.
During their time here, the journalists walked along the historic city walls before enjoying the homecoming celebrations on the banks of the River Foyle to mark the arrival of the Clipper fleet. They also attended the Irish Open at Royal Portrush before continuing on to Belfast. Their itinerary was designed by NITB.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “With the Clipper Maritime Festival in full swing, it was a great time for these journalists to visit Londonderry and soak up the atmosphere around the city. Along with the stopover of the Clipper Round the World Race, the recent Peace One Day concert and the build-up to the UK City of Culture in 2013, there are so many great platforms to showcase what we have to offer to an international audience.
“Media visits such as this are extremely important, helping to build awareness of what’s on offer in Northern Ireland for potential holidaymakers. Tourism Ireland has an extremely busy programme of promotions under way across the world, highlighting all that is happening in Northern Ireland during 2012 and beyond. These journalists have had the opportunity to see some of that at first-hand, helping to reinforce our message that there has never been a better time to visit Northern Ireland.”
