During the recent finale of the Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race in the historic port of Den Helder in north Holland, Tourism Ireland was on hand to assist a delegation from Derry~Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013 to promote the city and outline some of the exciting plans in the pipeline for next year to influential Dutch travel trade and media. The crew of the Derry~Londonderry Clipper, led by skipper Mark Light, was also in attendance.
Karen van der Horst, Tourism Ireland’s manager in the Netherlands, said: “The stopover in the Netherlands at the end of the Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race has provided a wonderful opportunity for us to promote Derry~Londonderry as the first ever UK City of Culture 2013 here in the Netherlands. We know that already the momentum is building in the city for next year, following the recent successful Clipper Maritime Festival and the Cultural Olympiad ‘Peace One Day’ concert with Jude Law. We look forward to promoting the City of Culture programme here in the Netherlands and to encouraging lots of Dutch people to include the city in their holiday plans for 2013.”
Tourism Ireland will roll out a programme of promotional activity around the world this autumn, to highlight Derry~Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013.
