‘Reeling in’ German tourists

A number of tourism and fishing partners joined Tourism Ireland in the fishing hall at the recent Jagen und Fischen fair in Germany.

Jagen und Fischen is a specialist angling and hunting fair that took place recently in Augsburg, in the Bavarian region of southern Germany. Focusing mainly on game and pike angling, with a strong fly-fishing component, the fair attracted about 21,000 visitors, including travel agents and tour operators who specialise in angling holidays, as well as many thousands of fishing enthusiasts from southern Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy, all looking for ideas and suggestions for their next fishing break or holiday destination.

Kristina Gauges, Tourism Ireland Germany, said: “Germany is the largest outbound travel market in the world and the third-largest source of overseas visitors to the island of Ireland. Tourism Ireland has an extensive programme of activity planned to grow tourism from Germany this year; fishing is very popular here in Germany and is just one of the activities we are promoting, showcasing Ireland as a fantastic fishing and holiday destination.”
