Tourism convention delegates visit Londonderry

Delegates who attended a major tourism convention in Belfast enjoyed a post-convention familiarisation visit to Londonderry, taking part in a guided walk along the city walls as well as a tour of the Tower Museum. The delegates had attended the annual convention of UKinbound, an association of leading UK inbound tour operators who put in place the arrangements for holidaymakers to GB and the island of Ireland from all over the world. This was the first time that the convention has taken place in Northern Ireland.

Jim Paul, Tourism Ireland’s head of Australia and developing markets, said: “We were delighted so many delegates took time out of their busy schedules to take part in the post-convention visit to experience some of the many things to do and see on a holiday here. The visitors had the opportunity to hear about the exciting programme in the pipeline for Derry as part of ni2012 –including the Cultural Olympiad ‘Peace One Day’ concert in June at the newly-created Ebrington site and the Clipper Maritime Festival in July; they also enjoyed a preview of the extensive plans for Derry~Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013.”

The visit was organised by Tourism Ireland in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.
