‘Pounding the pavements’ for tourists in Chicago and Dallas

Tourism Ireland’s series of ‘Jump into Ireland’ sales blitzes across the US and Canada kicked off for 2012 in Chicago and Dallas. Together with tourism representatives from around Ireland, Tourism Ireland will ‘pound the pavements’ in the all-important North American market again this year, targeting about 1,500 travel agents in nine key cities.

The busy schedule of B2B events in Chicago and Dallas included presentations and interactive ‘virtual’ tours of Ireland, as well as media networking – providing an excellent opportunity for the participating Irish tourism companies to showcase their product to the key decision-makers they met in the two cities. Similar events will take place in Tampa, Atlanta, Boston and Toronto during March and April, and in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver later this year.

Joe Byrne, Tourism Ireland’s head of North America, said: “North America is a critically important market for tourism to the island of Ireland, second only to GB in terms of visitor numbers. Visitors from North America stay longer, spend more than the average visitor and tour more extensively around the island. Despite continuing challenges in the market, research shows pent-up demand exists for travel – a real opportunity for our industry. Tourism Ireland has a busy promotional programme in place in the US and Canada for 2012, particularly around St Patrick’s Day, with a range of campaigns providing compelling reasons to visit and emphasising the convenience and value of a holiday in Ireland.”
