The United States is the second largest market for tourism to the island of Ireland. In 2006, visitor numbers from the USA grew by +8% to 965,000, at a time when US visitors to many other European destinations were actually declining. US visitors who travel to the island of Ireland are high spenders and the value of their visits also grew by +12% in 2006.

Travel to the island of Ireland turned in a strong performance last year and, in fact, faired better than many other European destinations. Our US visitor levels are almost back to pre-September 11 levels.
