Teeing Up Golf in Canada

23 Mar 2010

A number of golf and tourism operators from around the island of Ireland joined Tourism Ireland in Canada at the recent Toronto Star Golf & Travel Show.

The Toronto Star Golf & Travel Show is Canada’s (and North America’s) largest golf exhibition, attracting almost 30,000 visitors each year.  Ontario also has the highest number of golfers per capita in North America and is consistently ranked in the Top Three golf centres in the world.

Judith Cassidy, Tourism Ireland Canada, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for Tourism Ireland and our industry partners to showcase the wonderful golf product on offer throughout the island of Ireland and to encourage more Canadians to consider a golfing vacation here.

“Tourism Ireland’s strong promotional campaigns this year are emphasising the convenience and value of a golf vacation in Ireland.  We are highlighting great golf deals with our new golf offers booklet, to drive home to Canadian consumers the superb range of offers available on courses right around the island of Ireland.  The golf market remains a priority for Tourism Ireland in North America and we are undertaking a significant promotional programme in the run-up to, and during, the Solheim Cup which takes place next year at Killeen Castle in Co Meath.”

On the Tourism Ireland stand at the recent Toronto Star Golf & Travel Show are (l-r) Justin Farrell, North & West Coast Links; Eric Drinkwater, High Road Golf Expeditions (Canadian tour operator); Susan Heffernan, Golf Vacations Ireland; and Tom Cotter, Hastings Hotels Group.
