Dara Colleary TD, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment joined with Tourism Ireland and leading industry representatives from around the island of Ireland last week for a ‘Back in the USA’ sales blitz, in Boston, New York and Chicago.
The busy schedule for the participating Irish tourism providers included an ‘Experience a Flavor of Ireland’ business-to-business event in each of the three cities, where they met with key American travel trade such as carriers, tour operators and travel agents, as well as influential travel media contacts. The events provided an excellent opportunity for the participants to showcase their product to these important decision-makers and to encourage them to include the island of Ireland in their future holiday programmes. The group also engaged in a series of sales calls and worked with airline call centre teams, to enthuse them about the island of Ireland.
Joe Byrne, Tourism Ireland’s Executive Vice President North America, said: “North America is a very important market for tourism to the island of Ireland. Tourism Ireland has a comprehensive promotional programme in place in the US for 2010, particularly in the run-up to and during St Patrick’s Day, capitalising on Ireland’s heightened profile to showcase the uniqueness of a holiday here. We have a range of extensive campaigns under way, emphasising the convenience and value of a holiday here. The message in the US is that there has never been a better time to visit the island of Ireland.”
