Tourism industry representatives from around the island of Ireland joined with Tourism Ireland in India recently, to attend the 2010 Outbound Travel Roadshow (OTR).
The OTR is one of the most important travel workshops in India, taking in the cities of Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai and providing an opportunity for tourism businesses from Ireland and around Europe to showcase their products to a wide cross-section of influential tour operators and travel agents from around India. It provided an excellent platform for the participating Irish tourism representatives to meet and do business with influential Indian travel trade contacts. During the three-city roadshow, face-to-face meetings were conducted with approximately 250 key Indian decision-makers, encouraging them to include the island of Ireland in future holiday programmes. Tourism Ireland also organised sales calls in Mumbai and Delhi for participating Irish industry partners.
Huzan Fraser, Tourism Ireland India, said: “The Indian market offers exciting possibilities for tourism to the island of Ireland in the medium-to long-term. The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has forecast that the Asia-Pacific region will be one of the fastest-growing regions for outbound travel in the next ten years. Growth in travel from long-haul markets such as India will re-shape the global tourism landscape, with significant implications for tourism to the island of Ireland.”
