Promoting the island of Ireland in Hamburg

01 Mar 2010

Pictured on the Tourism Ireland stand at Reisen, a holiday fair which took place recently in Hamburg, are Louise McGee, B&B Ireland; Jennifer Engler, Waveline Cruisers; Karen Gallagher, Tourism Ireland Germany; and Klaus-Dieter Weise, Irish Hotels Federation.

Reisen is the largest travel promotion in northern Germany, attracting over 70,000 visitors each year, including leading travel media, tour operators and travel agents, as well as many thousands of potential German holidaymakers looking for ideas and suggestions for their next short break or holiday destination.

Tourism Ireland will increase its investment in the German market this year.  The organisation has an extremely busy promotional programme in place in Germany, particularly in the run-up to and during St Patrick’s Day, capitalising on Ireland’s heightened profile to showcase the uniqueness of a holiday here.  Promotional activity includes a national TV advertising campaign for the first time ever and a significantly expanded publicity programme which will highlight the island of Ireland as the island of ‘unique character and characters’.  Vibrant Ireland ads and images will be projected onto buildings in Cologne and Munich during peak travel times around St Patrick’s Day and attention-grabbing ‘Flashmob’ promotions will also take place in the streets of Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Munich, with musicians, singers and dancers.  Throughout 2010, Tourism Ireland will increase and intensify its engagement with the German travel agent sector, as travel agents continue to be the primary booking channels for Germans.
