Preparations are well under way for this year’s North West 200, which takes place on Saturday May 15th 2010. This event, the largest outdoor sporting event on the island of Ireland, attracts over 150,000 visitors on Race Day to the North Coast and over 250,000 visitors during Race Week.
Tourism Ireland is involved in supporting the event and has in the past assisted with the event organiser’s visits to the Macau Races in China, to seek possible interest from the Far East in both riders and spectators attending the Race. Tourism Ireland has also arranged for specialist journalists from Europe and Great Britain to attend the event in previous years, resulting in extensive coverage in various European sport and travel publications.
Aubrey Irwin, Tourism Ireland said: “The North West 200 is an amazing spectacle and one that needs to be experienced at first-hand. Following a very difficult year in 2009 Tourism Ireland is pulling out all the stops to win business for this year and to keep Northern Ireland top of mind with overseas consumers. High profile events, such as the North West 200, provide us with an ideal opportunity to put Northern Ireland in the spotlight, showcasing what we have to offer to a wide overseas audience.”
