Northern Ireland is ‘Hip’ Down Under

21 Jun 2010

Thousands of potential holidaymakers throughout Australia and New Zealand are receiving details of a novel Northern Ireland promotion this month.  The ‘Discover the Northern Gems’ competition, launched recently by Tourism Ireland, is targeting over 100,000 people ‘down under’, promoting Northern Ireland as a fresh and exciting holiday destination in a bid to encourage more Australians and New Zealanders to come and visit this year.

Entrants to the competition are encouraged to view some of our ‘hidden gems’, including visitor attractions and scenic spots, and are invited to select their favourites to create their own ‘Northern Gems’ postcard and then forward it to a friend, telling them why Northern Ireland is the perfect place for a holiday.  The promotion gives people a real sense of the huge range of things to see and do here.  The lucky winner – the entrant with the most creative postcard – will win a ‘Northern Gems’ holiday for two, courtesy of CIE Tours International.

Orla Saul, Tourism Ireland Manager for Australia and New Zealand, said: “Northern Ireland is viewed by Australians and New Zealanders as an exciting and ‘hip’ place to visit right now.  People here are amazed at how much there is to see and do in Northern Ireland and, in comparison to Australia in particular, just how accessible everything is.

“Our ‘Discover the Northern Gems’ promotion is a fun and different way to bring Northern Ireland to the attention of thousands of potential Australian and New Zealand holidaymakers.  It is highlighting the spectacular landscape and the wealth of cultural and historic attractions throughout Northern Ireland and what makes this part of the island so special.”
