Germans Sail into Belfast

25 Mar 2010

Two groups of German tour operators and travel agents arrived in Belfast by ferry recently, to take part in a fact-finding visit around the city. Their visit was organised by Tourism Ireland and German ferry group VFF Seaways, in association with NITB. The group consisted of over 100 influential German agents, who had the opportunity to visit Belfast City Hall, the Titanic Quarter, the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum and to take part in a walking tour of Belfast’s historic pubs.

“Germany is the world’s largest outbound travel market and the third largest source of visitors to the island of Ireland. It is a key market for Tourism Ireland and throughout 2010 we are increasing and intensifying our engagement with German travel agents, as they continue to be the primary booking channel for Germans”, explained Kristina Gauges, Tourism Ireland Germany.

“Tourism Ireland’s recent review of the German market has shown that it represents a strong growth opportunity for tourism to Northern Ireland. The Germans appreciate the beautiful landscape here, but we need to show them more ‘stand out’ holiday experiences and why Northern Ireland is a ‘must visit’ destination.”
