Well-known chef Noel McMeel, from Lough Erne Golf Resort, shared some of his culinary secrets as part of a series of cookery demonstrations at the Tourism Ireland display, during the recent 2010 Philadelphia Flower Show in the US.
Targeting the growing number of Americans interested in visiting gardens here, Tourism Ireland, together with industry partners from Northern Ireland and around the island, mounted a strong presence at this year’s show – which is the world’s largest indoor flower and horticultural show attracting an attendance of approximately 265,000 visitors. As part of the annual event, Tourism Ireland commissioned Noel McMeel to display his culinary skills using the best of Northern Ireland produce, to emphasise the quality and range of food which potential visitors can enjoy when holidaying here.
Tourism Ireland's participation also included the sponsorship of a garden entitled ‘The Glens, A Flavor of Northern Ireland’ and was dedicated to the memory of John Cushnie, well-known Northern Ireland garden broadcaster.
Tourism Ireland in North America has a strong presence at a wide range of travel, lifestyle and special interest fairs this year. Commenting on the busy promotional programme now in full swing in key states and gateway areas, Joe Byrne, Tourism Ireland North America, said: “North America is a very important market for tourism to the island of Ireland and Tourism Ireland is working closely with the tourism industry to target our best prospects and deliver a +2% growth in visitors in 2010. The Philadelphia Flower Show is an excellent opportunity to convey our message about the wonderful garden product in Northern Ireland to a large audience in the US. We are undertaking strong campaigns emphasising the convenience and value of a holiday in Northern Ireland and across the island of Ireland, as well as compelling reasons to visit.”
