Activity holidays in Northern Ireland were the focus of a group of German journalists who visited last week. Carefully selected and invited here by Tourism Ireland in Frankfurt, the group’s action-packed itinerary was designed by NITB.
The journalists enjoyed a variety of activities – including walking and cycling along the Causeway Coast, a surfing lesson at West Bay in Portrush, as well as a guided canoeing trip up the River Bann. The group also visited the Giant’s Causeway and the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge. In addition to influential travel writers from various German regional newspapers and magazines, a TV film production company and presenters from the Bavarian radio station BR3 also formed part of the group.
“This type of activity with backdrop of stunning scenery is exactly what many Germans are looking for in a holiday,” explained Barbara Wood, Tourism Ireland Germany. “Fact-finding visits like this ensure that influential journalists get to experience our world-class activity product at first-hand and then pass the news to hundreds of thousands of potential holidaymakers around Germany, through their radio and TV programmes and the articles they write when they return home.
“Germany is the world’s largest outbound travel market and the third largest source of visitors to the island of Ireland. It is a key market for Tourism Ireland and we have an exceptionally strong promotional programme in place for 2010, providing compelling reasons to visit and emphasising the great value for money available right now throughout Northern Ireland.”
