‘Driving’ the Golf Message Home to International Journalists

04 May 2010

Thirty-seven influential golf writers from 16 different countries, including a number of journalists who travelled from far-flung markets like Australia, India, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa took part in the recent 2010 Tourism Ireland Media Golf Masters.  The event, organised in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, was held at Royal Portrush Golf Club.

While they were here, the journalists also took part in various familiarisation or fact-finding trips around Northern Ireland, visiting Londonderry, Fermanagh and Co Down.

Jim Paul, Tourism Ireland’s Head of New and Developing Markets, said: “We are delighted to showcase Northern Ireland to so many journalists from around the world.  Fact-finding visits like this ensure that influential journalists get to experience not only world-class golf but the variety and quality of the general tourism product on offer here at first-hand.  The publicity value of the articles these journalists will write is fantastic – they will be read by many hundreds of thousands of potential holidaymakers around the world.”

“Tourism Ireland has a strong promotional programme under way right now around the world, to restore overseas tourism to growth this year.  A range of campaigns is highlighting the great value on offer here as well as compelling reasons to visit.  The message is that there has never been a better time to visit Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland.”
