A group of walking and activity journalists from Germany spent several days in Northern Ireland last week, enjoying various walks and places of interest. Carefully selected and invited here by Tourism Ireland in Frankfurt, the journalists were here to find out more about the wonderful walking routes and trails on offer throughout Northern Ireland. Their itinerary, put together in conjunction with NITB, included a guided walk in the Sperrins, a tour of the historic Walled City of Derry and a walk along the Causeway Coastal Route stopping off at Dunluce Castle, the Giant’s Causeway and Ballintoy.
Kristina Gauges, Tourism Ireland Germany, said: “Media visits such as these are extremely important to help build awareness in Germany of the fantastic walks and trails Northern Ireland has to offer. The publicity value of the articles these journalists will write is fantastic – they will be read by many hundreds of thousands of potential holidaymakers.
“Germany is an important market for tourism to Northern Ireland and Tourism Ireland has an extensive promotional programme in place for 2009; walking is one of the activities we are promoting, highlighting Northern Ireland as a great walking destination. It is absolutely essential that we convey the message that there has never been a better time for German people to visit Northern Ireland.”
