Tourism Ireland in New York arranged for Art Ginsburg, a celebrity TV and radio chef in the US commonly known as Mr Food, to visit Tipperary over the weekend. Mr Food stopped off to film at Larkins Pub in Garrykennedy where he prepared a beef and Guinness casserole and learned how to pour the perfect pint of Guinness. His visit was organised by Tourism Ireland in conjunction with Shannon Development.
Mr Food was in Ireland to film a number of culinary segments focusing on the variety and high quality of food available throughout the island of Ireland. These segments will be nationally syndicated throughout the US on all the major TV networks – including NBC, CBS, Fox and ABC – to a huge audience of millions of American consumers.
Joe Byrne, Tourism Ireland North America, said: “Increasingly the island of Ireland is becoming known for its food, with a reputation for high quality, natural products used in both traditional and innovative dishes. Gastronomy and the extremely high quality of Irish food is one of the themes being promoted by Tourism Ireland in the US this year and we are delighted to have this opportunity to showcase some of the food gems from Tipperary and around the island of Ireland. The publicity value of ‘Mr Food’ is incalculable - he is extremely popular and the food and wonderful scenery of this part of Ireland will be seen by millions of potential holidaymakers.”
“Tourism Ireland has an extensive promotional programme in place for 2009, highlighting Tipperary and the island of Ireland as a fantastic holiday destination. It is absolutely essential that we convey the message that there has never been a better time for Americans to visit the island of Ireland.”
