A group of influential lifestyle and garden journalists from Germany was in Co Carlow last week. Invited here by Tourism Ireland, one of the highlights of their fact-finding visit was a tour of Altamont Garden near Tullow.
The journalists met with the head gardener at Altamont, Paul Cutler; they also heard a briefing on the Carlow Gardens Festival which takes place in August.
Tina Gauges, Tourism Ireland Germany, said: “There is no substitute for being able to come here and experience what Ireland has to offer at first-hand. The group was hugely impressed by the spectacular gardens they visited, the wonderful scenery in this part of Ireland and the friendliness of the people. Media visits such as these are very important, in terms of helping to spread the good news about Carlow and the high quality of the garden product available throughout the island of Ireland. The articles these influential journalists will write will be read by thousands of potential German holidaymakers.
“Germany is an important source of visitors and tourism revenue for Ireland. Right now, Tourism Ireland in Germany is pulling out all the stops to win business for this year and to keep the island of Ireland top of mind with the German consumer. Our promotional activity is in full swing, highlighting that the island of Ireland is a great place to visit, is easily accessible and offers the consumer tremendous value for money.”
The journalists’ visit was organised by Tourism Ireland in Germany, in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland.
