Paul O’Toole, Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland, travelled to Germany recently, to sign the formal agreement with Germany’s largest tour operator DerTour, to host its annual travel conference or Travel Academy in Killarney this year. The conference will see 650 travel agents descend on Killarney in November and will help to substantially increase the number of German holidaymakers to the South West and to the island of Ireland in years to come.
Kevin Keogh, Vice President Marketing & Sales with DerTour, said: “The DERTOUR Travel Academy offers a unique opportunity to show the top-selling travel agents from Germany exactly what the island of Ireland has to offer their customers. We hope that everybody working in tourism, and indeed in Ireland generally, who meets these travel agents during their time here, will show them what a great country Ireland is.”
Paul O’Toole, Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland, said: “Tourism Ireland is delighted that Killarney has been chosen by DerTour to host its annual Travel Academy. This event allows us to showcase the South West as a tourist destination of choice for German holidaymakers; Killarney and the South West have a wealth of things to do and see and the standard of the tourism product here is extremely high. It is really important for an influential group like this to experience the exceptional beauty of this part of Ireland for themselves, so that they can spread the good news and sell more effectively when they return home and entice more German visitors to holiday here.”
Signing the formal agreement in Frankfurt, to bring the 2009 DerTour Travel Academy to Killarney is Paul O’Toole, Tourism Ireland and Michael Frese, Managing Director of DerTour.
