Royal County Down is number one for German Golfers

20 May 2009

Readers of Germany’s highly regarded Golf Magazin have voted Royal County Down the number one golf course in the category “Top 100 Golf Courses Outside The USA”.  Royal Portrush came in close behind, at number four.  Voted by over 1,000 golf experts, these awards are highly regarded by golfers throughout Germany and have been running for 25 years.

Judith von Rauchhaput, Tourism Ireland Germany, said: “This is another tremendous accolade for Royal Co Down, Royal Portrush and for golf in Northern Ireland which we, in Tourism Ireland, will exploit to best effect within our extensive programme of marketing activities for Northern Ireland.  It acknowledges again that Northern Ireland golf is up there with the best in the world.

“We have been working hard to build awareness of Northern Ireland as a premier golf holiday destination among German consumers.  And of course, in a difficult and competitive year for tourism, anything that gives us stand-out from our competitors is very welcome.  We are confident that this award will inform and inspire many German golfers to choose Northern Ireland for their future golfing holiday.”

With a readership of over 60,000 Golf Magazin is one of Germany’s leading golf publications.
