A writer and photographer from the Australian online surf-travel publication Longbreak were in Donegal and Sligo last weekend, to check out for themselves the fantastic surfing product on offer in this part of Ireland. Invited here by Tourism Ireland in Sydney, they spent the weekend in the north-west trying out various surfing suggestions from Fáilte Ireland North West.
Longbreak is a recently launched online publication which targets the mature (45+ years) high-spending travelling surfer. The theme of the article by Longbreak writer Trevor Paddenburg is a journey of exploration along the north-west coast, discovering some of the best surfing ‘hidden gems’. As well as the article, they will also create a surfing and general travel blog, focusing on the north-west as a fantastic holiday destination for Australian surfers.
Orla Saul, Tourism Ireland Australia, said: “Tourists are increasingly reliant on blogs and websites like Longbreak to inspire and inform them about their holiday choices, so this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the superb surfing product available in this part of Ireland to a niche audience in Australia. The readers of Longbreak have good disposal incomes and finding out about interesting and different surf travel destinations is high on their agenda. They enjoy reading articles by opinion-formers such as Trevor Paddenburg who has visited and who knows exactly what Sligo and Donegal have to offer. For these readers the travel experience is the main motive and surfing somewhere unusual and unexpected is a bonus – so the north-west fits the bill perfectly.”
