Laois says ‘Bonjour’

07 Sep 2009

A group of influential French journalists visited Co Laois last week, on a fact-finding visit.  As well as a short visit to Stradbally to get a taste of the annual Electric Picnic music festival, the group enjoyed some of the facilities at the Heritage Golf & Spa Resort in Killenard and took a barge cruise on the Grand Canal from Vicarstown.  Their visit was organised by Tourism Ireland, in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland.

Billy Condon, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for Southern Europe, said: “We are delighted to welcome this group of French journalists to Co Laois.  They have been really impressed by the range of things to see and do here, the diverse scenery and of course, by the friendliness of the people they have met.  Festivals like Electric Picnic provide a great ‘hook’ for us to showcase the area and help to enhance to overall experience of the journalists.

“Fact-finding visits like this are extremely important, to help us get positive exposure for Laois and the island of Ireland through the media in France.  This is an excellent way of promoting the wonderful tourism product on offer here in Co Laois, as the articles these influential journalists will write will be read by thousands of potential French holidaymakers.

“France is a very important market for tourism and last year we welcomed 423,000 French visitors to the island of Ireland.  We have a strong and comprehensive promotional programme under way in France this year, with significant emphasis on value for money offers, to drive home to French consumers our message about the superb range of offers available in Laois and across the island of Ireland.”
