Kilkenny Targets Nordic Tourists

16 Sep 2009

A group of influential travel writers from Sweden, Norway and Finland visited Kilkenny this week.  Invited here by Tourism Ireland, their itinerary was themed ‘Historic Ireland’ and was designed by Fáilte Ireland.  One of the highlights of their visit was a guided tour of Kilkenny Castle.  The journalists also enjoyed a walking tour of the city and learned about the Kilkenny 400 anniversary celebrations over lunch.

Steven Roberts, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for the Nordic Region, said: “There is no substitute for being able to come here and experience what Kilkenny and the island of Ireland has to offer at first-hand.  The group was hugely impressed by the rich heritage of this medieval city, the character of Kilkenny with its winding streets and beautiful buildings and by the friendliness of the people.  Media visits such as these are very important, helping us to spread the good news about Kilkenny and the high quality of the tourism product available here.  The articles these influential journalists will write will be read by thousands of potential Nordic holidaymakers.

“The Nordics region is an important market for tourism and we in Tourism Ireland are pulling out all the stops to win business and to keep Kilkenny and the island of Ireland ‘top of mind’ with the Nordic consumer this year.
Our autumn promotional campaign is in full swing right now, highlighting that the island of Ireland is a great place to visit, is easily accessible and offers tremendous value for money.”
