A group of influential garden and lifestyle journalists from Switzerland paid a visit to Kildare last week. Invited here by Tourism Ireland in Switzerland, their itinerary was designed by Fáilte Ireland. One of the highlights of their fact-finding trip was a stop at the Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens in Kildare.
Tina Gauges, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for Central Europe, said: “We are delighted to bring these Swiss journalists to Kildare. There really is no substitute for being able to come here and experience at first-hand what Kildare and the island of Ireland has to offer - seeing is definitely believing! The group has been hugely impressed by the variety of the wonderful gardens they have seen, the beautiful landscape and of course by the friendliness of the people they have met.
“Visits by influential journalists such as these help us to spread the good news in Switzerland about the wonderful tourism product in Co Kildare. The visit of these journalists will result in extensive and positive publicity for both Kildare and the island of Ireland across a range of different publications which will be read by thousands of potential Swiss holidaymakers.”
Tourism Ireland, the organisation responsible for promoting the island of Ireland overseas as a premier holiday destination, has full time representation in Switzerland and works with key Swiss media and travel trade contacts, to grow tourism business from this market. In 2008, the island of Ireland welcomed 61,000 Swiss visitors. Tourism Ireland has an extensive promotional programme in place, designed to tell the Swiss consumer about the many compelling reasons to come and holiday in Kildare and around the island of Ireland.
