A group of top German travel agents visited the Fermanagh Lakelands last week, en route to Killarney to attend a high profile international conference, the 2009 DERTOUR Reiseakademie (Travel Academy).
Before the conference kicked off, the agents took the opportunity to explore and discover parts of Northern Ireland.  Their itinerary included Belfast, where Tourism Minister Arlene Foster hosted a reception for them in Parliament Buildings, the Causeway Coast and the Fermanagh Lakelands.

In November of last year, Tourism Ireland in Frankfurt secured this prestigious conference for the island of Ireland.  Rival bids were made by Orlando, Mexico City, Las Vegas, Oporto and Shanghai – but the quality of the tourism product here, together with the Tourism Ireland bid, won the event for the island of Ireland.

Tina Gauges, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Central Europe, said: "This fact-finding visit allows us to showcase the Fermanagh Lakelands and Northern Ireland as a tourist destination of choice for German and Austrian visitors; Fermanagh has a wealth of things to do and see and the standard of the tourism product here is extremely high.
“It is really important for an influential group like this to experience the exceptional beauty of the Fermanagh Lakelands and the rest of Northern Ireland for themselves.  Seeing is definitely believing and with this first-hand experience the travel agents will be in a better position to advise future clients effectively to consider Fermanagh and Northern Ireland for their holiday destination.”

Tanya Cathcart, Fermanagh Lakelands Tourism and Jonathan Gallagher, Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen welcome German travel agents during their recent visit to Fermanagh.
