Tourism Ireland brought 20 leading coach and group tour operators from Great Britain to the Shannon Region last week, for a day of one-to-one workshop meetings with local tourism providers. The workshop was organised jointly by Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland with support from Shannon Development. Following the workshop, the operators took the opportunity to take part in a fact-finding trip of the region, to learn more about the excellent tourism products that the Shannon Region has to offer.
Lawrence Bate, Tourism Ireland’s Head of Great Britain, said: “We are delighted to bring so many leading coach and group tour operators to the Shannon Region. Fact-finding visits such as these help the operators to know exactly what we have to offer potential GB holidaymakers and to sell more effectively when they return home.
“Against a background of economic uncertainty, trading conditions in GB are extremely tough this year; it is certainly more competitive and challenging than ever before. However, Great Britain remains a vitally important market for tourism to the island of Ireland, last year delivering 4.6 million visitors. Tourism Ireland is pulling out all the stops to win business for the Shannon Region and the island of Ireland, highlighting why this is such a fantastic place to visit, as well as the ease of access in getting here and the tremendous value on offer right now.”
