A group of influential journalists from Germany visited Co Clare at the weekend. Their trip was organised by Tourism Ireland in Germany, in conjunction with Shannon Development.
During their fact-finding visit here, the group of journalists had a chance to experience at first-hand some of the extensive and varied range of activities which this part of Ireland has to offer potential holidaymakers – including a cruise from Doolin to see the spectacular Cliffs of Moher and a walk in the Burren with Frances Connole of the Burren Centre. The group also enjoyed a presentation on local food by Birgitta Hedin-Curtin at the Burren Smokehouse in Lisdoonvarna. They stopped off at the Burren Perfumery in Carron and enjoyed a walking tour of the Burren, with Tony Kirby from Heart of Burren Walks. They visited Glór in Ennis and enjoyed a tour of Knappogue Castle as well as a traditional night of Irish hospitality at Bunratty.
Tina Gauges, Tourism Ireland Germany, said: “Media visits such as these are extremely important to help build awareness of the Shannon Region and Ireland in general, among potential holidaymakers in Germany. The publicity value of the articles these journalists will write is fantastic – they will be read by many hundreds of thousands of potential holidaymakers.
“In a difficult year for tourism, the visit of these influential journalists is an excellent opportunity to showcase our wonderful hospitality and the many things to see and do in this part of Ireland.”
John King, Shannon Development, said: “It is important that we redouble our tourism marketing efforts in these challenging times. We were therefore particularly pleased to have played our part in looking after this prestigious German press group. We are delighted that they have promised to write favourable articles about their visit to County Clare and we hope that the spread of articles in Germany will boost German visitor numbers to County Clare and the Shannon Region.”
