Austrian journalists get a taste of Killarney

23 Mar 2009

A group of influential journalists from Austria visited Killarney and the South West over the weekend.  Their trip was organised by Tourism Ireland, together with leading Austrian tour operator Blaguss Reisen and Fáilte Ireland.

Blaguss Reisen is one of the top tour operators in Austria, with an extensive programme of coach tour holidays to the island of Ireland.  From mid-May until the end of July, Blaguss will operate a charter flight each week from Vienna to Shannon.  Encouraging visitors to spend time in the various regions of Ireland is a key priority for Tourism Ireland and the organisation seeks to capitalise on opportunities offered by airlines and tour operators, such as this charter flight from Vienna to Shannon.

During their fact-finding visit here, the group of journalists had a chance to discover and experience at first-hand some of the best of what this part of Ireland has to offer potential Austrian holidaymakers – including a tour of the Killarney National Park and a ride through the Gap of Dunloe by jaunting car.

Simone Korb, Tourism Ireland Austria, said: “Media visits such as these are extremely important to help build awareness of Kerry, the South West and Ireland in general, among potential holidaymakers in Austria.  The publicity value of the articles these journalists will write is fantastic – they will be read by many thousands of potential holidaymakers.

“In a difficult year for tourism, the visit of these influential journalists is an excellent opportunity to showcase our wonderful hospitality and the many things to see and do in this part of Ireland.”
