Images of Co Down and Northern Ireland will be broadcast to approximately 600,000 viewers across The Netherlands later this year, as one of the country’s largest commercial TV stations, RTL4, is filming on location here this week.
Organised by Tourism Ireland in Amsterdam in conjunction with NITB and Good Food Ireland, filming will involve TV presenter Rene Pluijm travelling around Northern Ireland, discovering local gastronomy and specialties and filming for the popular gastronomy/travel programme Pluijm op Pad (meaning Pluijm on the Road) – which has total viewership figures of approximately 600,000. The result will be two 45-minute programmes which will air in The Netherlands in October and November of this year.
Footage will include the Hillsborough Oyster Festival as well as Hilden Brewery, St George’s Market in Belfast and Lough Neagh where presenter Rene Pluijm will meet some local fishermen on the banks of the lough.
John Walsh, Tourism Ireland’s Manager in The Netherlands, said: “We are absolutely delighted that RTL4 has chosen to film two episodes of this popular programme here. It is a fantastic opportunity to spread the good news about Northern Ireland as a premier holiday destination with an outstanding food product, to a wide Dutch audience.
“The Netherlands is an important market for tourism and last year we welcomed 22,000 Dutch visitors to Northern Ireland. We have a strong and comprehensive promotional programme under way in The Netherlands this year, with significant emphasis on value for money offers, to drive home to Dutch consumers our message about the superb range of offers available throughout Northern Ireland.”
