Images of Sligo will be broadcast to approximately 300,000 viewers across Germany later this year on a popular TV holiday programme, as a crew from one of the country’s TV channels Hessischer Rundfunk was filming on location here over the weekend.
Organised by Tourism Ireland in Germany in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland, filming took place at Drumcliffe and Yeats’ grave. Footage will also include Strandhill Golf Club and Mullaghmore.
Kristina Gauges, Tourism Ireland Germany, said: “We are delighted that this crew from Hessischer Rundfunk has decided to film in Sligo. The programme ‘Service Reisen’ is watched regularly by about 300,000 viewers, so this is a great way to showcase Sligo as a superb holiday destination for Germans and to highlight the many things to see and do in this part of Ireland.
“Germany is an important market for tourism to the island of Ireland, last year delivering 470,000 visitors. Our autumn promotional campaign is in full swing right now in Germany, with particular emphasis on value for money offers as well as the many activities and things to see and do in Sligo and throughout the island of Ireland.”
