21 Dec 2009

Images of Howth and Dublin will be broadcast to an audience of approximately 2.5 million people across the Netherlands this Christmas on the hugely popular family show All You Need Is Love Christmas Special.

Invited here by Tourism Ireland in Amsterdam in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland, the TV crew spent one week here capturing footage for the Christmas special which has been running in the Netherlands for 16 years and has total viewership figures of about 2.5 million.  The programme will involve well-known Dutch presenter Robert ten Brink re-uniting couples in time for Christmas in a romantic Irish setting; the first ‘reunion’ takes place at the Bailey Lighthouse.  Footage will also include Howth Castle and spectacular aerial views of north Dublin.  The programme will air at prime time on Christmas Eve, with a re-run on Christmas Day, on Dutch channel RTL.

John Walsh, Tourism Ireland in the Netherlands, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Dublin was chosen as the setting for this successful TV show.  As we kick off our promotional drive for 2010, this is a fantastic opportunity to highlight some of the very best of what Howth and Dublin have to offer to a huge Dutch audience.  The publicity value of a TV show like this is incalculable; it really is an excellent way of promoting the wonderful tourism product in this part of Ireland to a mass audience.

“We have a strong promotional programme in the pipeline for the Netherlands for 2010; we will be placing significant emphasis on value for money offers, to drive home to Dutch consumers our message about the superb range of offers available around the island of Ireland.”
