Killeen Castle, venue of the Solheim Cup ladies golf tournament in 2011, featured on the itinerary of a group of visiting golf tour operators from Sweden, Norway and Denmark over the weekend. Carefully selected and invited here by Tourism Ireland in the Nordic Region, to experience at first-hand some of the fantastic golf courses on offer in this part of Ireland, arrangements for their fact-finding visit were put in place by Fáilte Ireland.
Steven Roberts, Tourism Ireland’s Manager in the Nordic Region, said: “Tourism Ireland is planning a major promotional programme in its main overseas markets, including Scandinavia, in the run-up to the Solheim Cup in 2011. This high profile sporting event provides a fantastic platform to put Killeen Castle and the island of Ireland in the spotlight, highlighting the island as a top golf destination.
“The visit of these influential golf tour operators is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our world-class golf product. There really is no substitute for being able to come and experience the product at first-hand; it helps these influential tour operators know exactly what Ireland has to offer and to therefore sell more effectively when they return home and encourage more Scandinavians to consider a golfing holiday here.
“Scandinavia, and Sweden in particular, is a very important market for golf tourism and we in Tourism Ireland are pulling out all the stops to win business and to keep Ireland ‘top of mind’ with the Scandinavian consumer this year. It is absolutely essential that we convey the message that there has never been a better time for Scandinavian people to visit the island of Ireland.”
