West Coast of Ireland Voted 3rd best golf destination in Europe Ahead of Costa del Sol and St Andrews, Scotland

31 Mar 2008

A reader-survey in Germany’s highly regarded GOLFmagazin awarded the West Coast of Ireland third best European Golf region ahead of Belek, Turkey (4th place), the Costa del Sol, Spain (5th Place) and St Andrews, Scotland (6th place).  First and second place awards went to the Algarve, Portugal and Mallorca, Spain respectively.

Germany is one of Irish tourism’s key source markets within Mainland Europe, last year attracting almost half a million visitors to the island of Ireland.  “This is a great accolade for golf in the West of Ireland which we will exploit to best effect within our extensive programme of marketing activities for the West of Ireland,” said Judith von Rauchhaupt, Press & Publicity Manager, Tourism Ireland Germany.  “The German economy is reporting steady growth and feedback from tour operators is that the year has started on a positive note.  It augurs well for another strong performance from the German market in 2008,” said von Rauchhaupt.
