Ulster-Scots Agency hears of extensive promotion in US

At its recent Board meeting in Dublin, members of the Ulster-Scots Agency heard details of the extensive promotional programme which Tourism Ireland has under way in the United States to encourage more visitors of Ulster-Scots origin to visit Northern Ireland this year. 
 
Tourism Ireland has been targeting the Ulster-Scots in the US for a number of years but the programme has been expanded for 2008 and includes direct marketing to “best prospects” who have Northern Ireland surnames; mailings in conjunction with well-known partners such as American Express; and eMarketing promotions on key websites such as Travelocity.  The programme also includes an extensive publicity campaign, with a number of individual and group media trips to Northern Ireland in the pipeline for 2008.  Tourism Ireland will participate in a number of promotions this year to reach this sector, such as the Stone Mountain Festival in Atlanta and the Americana Conference & Exhibition in Nashville.

Welcoming the Board of the Ulster-Scots, Niall Gibbons, Tourism Ireland’s Director of Corporate Services & Policy, said: “Tourism Ireland is looking forward to working more closely with the Ulster-Scots Agency to grow visitor numbers to Northern Ireland.  Through the development of the Ulster-Scots tourism product on the ground and vigorous promotion in key US states, we believe we can deliver growth in the years ahead.” 

Also present at the Board meeting, George Patton, the Ulster-Scots Agency’s Chief Executive, said: “We truly appreciate and commend Tourism Ireland’s efforts over the past number of years and are delighted their promotional campaign in the United States is set to continue in 2008.  It is fantastic to see the number of visitors of Ulster-Scots origin to the Province increasing and with the help of Tourism Ireland, we are confident this figure will continue to grow.”
