Fourth Time Ireland Chosen for Pilcher Movie

Glenveagh has been chosen as one of the locations for a major new TV drama Hearts Desire, written by best-selling author Rosamunde Pilcher. This is the fourth time Ireland has been chosen as a location for the production of a Pilcher drama, which will be broadcast on prime time German television to an estimated audience of 8-10 million viewers.

Filming commenced this week and will continue until early October. Locations include Glenveagh National Park & Castle, Westport House, Achill Island, Foxford Woollen Mills, Turlough House and Belleek Castle. A film crew of up to 20 and a cast of ten will be accommodated locally, bringing a welcome boost to the local tourism sector.

Germany is one of Ireland’s key target source markets and last year attracted a record 464,000 visitors to the island of Ireland. “The publicity value of a production of this nature is incalculable,” said Siobhán McManamy, Manager of Tourism Ireland’s Central European office. “The film is essentially a ninety-minute advertisement for some of the most stunning locations that Ireland has to offer and will be seen in Germany by an estimated 8-10 million potential visitors. This is a good example of Tourism Ireland and the Irish Film Board working together to get results. Ireland’s western seaboard has been marketed extensively by Tourism Ireland in Germany this year, as part of our ‘Discover Ireland’s Wonderful West’ campaign in addition to our core marketing programme of activities.”
