Mainland Europe

St Patrick’s Day will be celebrated among Irish communities across Europe:

Germany:
‘Flashmob’ Promotions & Iconic Ireland Image Projections -  To add to the sense of celebration, Tourism Ireland will project images of Ireland onto buildings during rush hours in the German cities of Munich and Cologne during St Patrick’s Week.  Attention-grabbing ‘Flashmob’ promotions will also take place in the streets of Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Munich on St Patrick’s Day with musicians, singers and dancers.  These will be linked to extensive radio promotions in the same cities to create a bigger buzz and bring the good news about holidays to the island of Ireland to an even wider audience.

Travel Agent Promotions - St Patrick’s Day will also be declared ‘Ireland Day’ in leading travel agencies across Germany, promoting value offers and building on the success of the DERTOUR Reiseakademie (Travel Academy) which brought 900 German travel professionals (including top retail agents who are still the main source of travel bookings in Germany) to Ireland last November for their annual sales conference.

France:
Trade & Media Promotions - Tourism Ireland will join with Bord Bia for a promotion to 250 top media and trade contacts at the Montparnasse Tower in Paris on St Patrick’s Day.

Radio Promotions - A week-long radio promotion with Europe 1, one of France’s largest stations, will promote value offers and compelling reasons to choose the island of Ireland for a holiday.

Advertising, ezines & online competitions - Over 1 million Parisian commuters on public transport will see a special St Patrick’s promotion on 17th March.  Over 200,000 potential French visitors will receive promotional ezines in the run up to St Patrick’s Day and, based on 2009 figures, an online game/competition is expected to attract around 40,000 players who will search for missing items belonging to St Patrick across the island of Ireland.

Social Media & Events - St Patrick’s promotions will also run on Facebook and Tourism Ireland will provide island of Ireland images and literature to up to 20 St Patrick’s Day event organisers throughout France.

Nordic Countries:
Industry Roadshow - Tourism Ireland’s COS Roadshow to Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm, with Irish tourism industry representatives, will be themed for St Patrick and involve some Irish music and entertainment.

Commuter Promotions - Stockholm Central Station will be dressed with island of Ireland imagery and messages and there’ll be displays of our dancing and music-making.  Commuters will also be targeted through coverage in the Metro freesheet.

Spain:
A Celebration of Ireland's Culture - A buzz about the island of Ireland will be created at city centre locations in Madrid showcasing our music, dance, food and good holiday offers.
