Start Spreading the News – Showcasing Kerry in New York

30 May 2014

A delegation from Kerry, including Mayor of Kerry Séamus Cosaí Fitzgerald, visited New York this week. They were there to lobby for the Valentia Island cable station to be named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During their time in New York, they highlighted the many things to see and do on a holiday in Kerry at an event in the New York Athletic Club, supported by Tourism Ireland – which was attended by influential travel agents, tour operators, airlines and travel media based in and around the New York area.

Kerry and the South West, its spectacular scenery, heritage, events, outdoor and other activities, the Ring of Kerry, the Dingle Peninsula, as well as many other aspects of the area, feature prominently in Tourism Ireland’s promotions around the world. Tourism Ireland profiles Kerry extensively on its global suite of websites, Ireland.com, which appears in 11 different language versions for over 30 individual markets around the world, attracting over 13 million unique visits each year. The organisation’s market guides, 1.1 million copies of which are distributed annually overseas, also feature Kerry; as do its social media campaigns to its 2.1 million Facebook fans and 130,000 Twitter followers across main markets.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “The United States is one of the most important markets for tourism to the island of Ireland and 2013 was a record year for American visitors to Ireland – even surpassing our previous best year of 2007. Tourism Ireland in the US has an extensive programme of promotions under way throughout 2014, to keep the momentum going and build on that growth. We are spreading the word about the many great experiences that US holidaymakers can enjoy in Kerry and elsewhere around Ireland, including our newest visitor experience, the Wild Atlantic Way.”
