German Business Tourism Buyers Check out Northern Ireland

03 Jun 2014

Decision-makers from leading German business tourism companies are visiting Northern Ireland this week, as guests of Tourism Ireland.

The group includes senior representatives of companies involved in the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) industry, who are responsible for organising international conferences, meetings and large-scale incentive events around the world for their clients. They are here to discover more about the world-class facilities and accommodation on offer in Northern Ireland, as well as the great experiences business delegates can enjoy here on the sidelines of their conference or meeting.

Following an itinerary devised by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, the group travelled along the Causeway Coastal Route, visiting Glenarm Castle, the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge and Ballintoy Harbour, to see where the mythical ‘Lordsport Harbour’ from HBO’s Games of Thrones is filmed. This was followed by a visit to the Giant’s Causeway and the Old Bushmills Distillery, with dinner and an overnight stay at the Bushmills Inn. Today, the influential group are travelling on to Belfast, where they will visit Titanic Belfast and have the chance to experience some of the city’s newest attractions, SS Nomadic and Crumlin Road Gaol. Visits to the F.E McWilliam Gallery in Banbridge and the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra also featured in the group’s busy itinerary.

Zoë Redmond, Tourism Ireland’s manager for Central Europe said: “Business tourism is an important, high yield sector and Tourism Ireland has an extensive programme of promotions under way to grow this type of tourism to Northern Ireland. Familiarisation visits like this are an invaluable element of that programme to build awareness of Northern Ireland and our world-class business tourism offering, among the business tourism sector in Germany. We are highlighting the world-class conference and meetings facilities available, as well as showcasing the great experiences delegates can enjoy in Northern Ireland on the sidelines of their conference or meeting, interacting with locals and savouring aspects of our unique culture and heritage.”
