A popular Australian website, news.com.au, has listed Fermanagh Lakelands in its “15 holiday destinations off the tourist track”. Coming in at number four – after Trieste in Italy, Ikaria in Greece and Meknes in Morocco – Fermanagh is described as a “landscape of castles and island-studded lakes”.
Welcoming the news of Fermanagh’s inclusion in “off the tourist track” listing in Australia, Niall Gibbons, Tourism Ireland chief executive, said: “I am delighted to see that Fermanagh’s spectacular lakeland scenery, its rich history and magnificent stately homes have been recognised in this listing. The hosting of the G8 Summit at the Lough Erne Resort has certainly helped to enhance Fermanagh’s global profile and has given Tourism Ireland a wonderful platform to continue to market Fermanagh and Northern Ireland as a ‘must-see’ destination in Australia and elsewhere around the world.”
The news.com.au website is owned by News Corp Australia, one of Australia’s largest media companies.
