Tourism Ireland Welcomes New Ryanair Flights to Dublin Airport

14 Nov 2013

Tourism Ireland warmly welcomes today’s announcement by Ryanair of nine new flights to Dublin Airport from April 2014, which will include year-round services from Basel (Switzerland). Tourism Ireland also welcomes the increased flights each week on services from London (Stansted), Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Nice and Madrid to Dublin. These new and increased services will certainly provide a significant boost for Irish tourism from the British, Swiss, French and Spanish markets in 2014.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Today’s announcement is more good news for Irish tourism for 2014. We already work very closely with Ryanair and we look forward to co-operating with them to maximise the promotion of these new and expanded services from Britain, Switzerland, Spain and France to Dublin. As an island, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism. Tourism Ireland is committed to working with Ryanair, Dublin Airport and other tourism interests, through co-operative marketing, to drive demand for these flights – as we work with other carriers and partners to promote and help maintain vital routes and services to the island.”

Niall Gibbons continued: “Tourism from Mainland Europe is performing well this year – over +5% for the January-September period, with record performances from France and Spain. We are also pleased to see a return in growth to visitor numbers from GB this year – +3.5% for the January-September period, including +9% for the peak summer months (July-September). And the outlook for 2014 is also positive – particularly in light of these new Ryanair flights, just in time for the summer season, which will help keep the growth momentum going.”
