An estimated 1.5 million people across Great Britain will tune in to Lough Erne and Co Fermanagh next week on the top morning TV show, BBC Breakfast.
Tourism Ireland arranged for a crew from BBC Breakfast to visit Fermanagh and the Lough Erne Resort last weekend, where they filmed a feature on the venue of the G8 Summit. The piece, fronted by Northern Ireland-born journalist Chris Buckler, will include interviews with the hotel manager Ferghal Purcell, head chef Noel McMeel, as well as with representatives of various local businesses. It will be seen by about 1.5 million viewers – or potential holidaymakers – when it airs next week.
The footage will show the Lough Erne Resort and what the G8 world leaders and their teams will experience during their time there. The crew from BBC Breakfast was also given a ‘sneak preview’ of the busy preparations under way in advance of the G8 Summit. This broadcast is just one element of Tourism Ireland’s promotional drive around the world – and in particular in Great Britain – to capitalise on the historic visit by the G8 to Northern Ireland.
Niall Gibbons, Tourism Ireland’s chief executive, said: “With approximately 1.5 million viewers, this feature on BBC Breakfast is an excellent opportunity to reach a wide audience of potential holidaymakers across Great Britain, to remind them about the wonderful scenery and landscape of Fermanagh and Northern Ireland.
“The G8 Summit is an unprecedented opportunity to showcase Fermanagh and Northern Ireland – not only to world leaders but also through the accompanying international media to potential visitors across the world. It will raise the profile of Northern Ireland and ultimately help us achieve our goals of increasing visitor numbers from overseas. Tourism Ireland’s promotional programme and publicity drive are being stepped up – before, during and after the G8.”
As well as this broadcast on BBC Breakfast, Tourism Ireland’s promotional activity to capitalise on the G8 Summit includes familiarisation visits to Fermanagh and Northern Ireland for leading travel and lifestyle media in advance of the summit; extensive social media activity and engagement with international media during the G8; and ‘follow in the footsteps’ familiarisation visits for influential media and travel trade contacts who specialise in business tourism and golf, following the G8.
