Ten tourism companies from around the island of Ireland travelled to Great Britain recently, to join Tourism Ireland for a roadshow aimed at raising awareness of Ireland as a fantastic holiday and short break destination.
The roadshow involved a workshop event hosted by Discover Travel and Tours in Worcester – a leading tour operator specialising in group and coach travel to Ireland. The business-to-business workshop sessions provided a valuable opportunity for the Irish companies to present their product to the sales and operations staff of Discover Travel and Tours and to communicate what is unique about the island of Ireland as a holiday destination. The roadshow also took in the busy Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham over three days, targeting shoppers and potential holidaymakers with messages about the many things to see and do on holiday here as well as the ease of access from Birmingham to Ireland.
Vanessa Markey, Tourism Ireland’s head of Great Britain, said: “This type of roadshow, where we talk directly to prospective holidaymakers in GB, as well as to members of the influential travel trade like Discover Travel and Tours, provides us with an excellent opportunity to spread the word about all the great things to see and do on a holiday or short break in Ireland. It is a really effective platform for our tourism partners from around Ireland to showcase their product direct to consumers and to the travel trade, helping to position Ireland as a ‘must see’ destination and grow tourism business for the rest of 2012 and beyond.”
Great Britain is our largest and most important tourism market, accounting for over 50% of all visitors from overseas. Tourism Ireland has an extremely busy promotional programme under way in GB right throughout 2012.
