Tourism Ireland Welcomes New Flights From Austria for 2013

10 Oct 2012

Tourism Ireland warmly welcomes the announcement of a new charter service from Austria for 2013. The service will operate between April and June 2013, with two flights per week from Vienna (one to Belfast International Airport and one to Dublin Airport). This new service has been organised by Austrian tour operator Raiffeisen Reisbüro and will be operated by Vienna-based airline, Lauda Air.

The new service is expected to deliver over 2,500 Austrian visitors, who will spend one week on the island of Ireland (those who arrive on the Belfast flight will spend four nights in Northern Ireland and three nights in Dublin). Working closely with airlines to build demand for routes is a key priority for Tourism Ireland and this new service will provide a welcome boost for tourism from Austria in the shoulder season.

Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland, said: “The introduction of this new service from Austria is welcome news indeed; it will certainly expand travel options for Austrian holiday and business travellers who wish to visit Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland. As part of our ongoing co-operation with airlines and airports, Tourism Ireland will undertake advertising and other promotions with Raiffeisen Reisbüro, to maximise the demand for the service to Belfast and Dublin and boost tourism to the island of Ireland.

“As an island destination, direct, convenient and competitive access services are critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism. Tourism Ireland is committed to working with air and sea carriers, airports and other tourism interests to drive demand for these flights, and all other services to the island of Ireland, and to help maintain our vital network of routes and services.”
