A group of influential travel agents and journalists from Sweden and Denmark flew to Dublin Airport last week on the brand new Aer Lingus flight from Copenhagen, en route to Waterford and Kilkenny for a fact-finding visit. They were here, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland, to experience at first-hand some of the many things to see and do in this part of Ireland for Swedish and Danish holidaymakers.
Given that the group – which included six travel agents and four journalists – all represented travel companies and media outlets from in and around Copenhagen and the city of Malmö in southern Sweden (which is within easy reach of Copenhagen Airport), this was also a fantastic opportunity to highlight the new Aer Lingus route and the excellent connectivity between Scandinavia and Ireland. During their visit, the group spent time exploring the historic Viking Triangle, taking in visits to the new Waterford Museum of Treasures and Reginald’s Tower. They also visited Kilkenny, where they enjoyed a walking tour of the city and a visit to Kilkenny Castle.
Caroline Brunel, Tourism Ireland’s manager for the Nordic region, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite this group of travel agents and journalists to visit the south east. For many of them, it was their first time here and they were extremely impressed by our wonderful scenery, the many things to see and do, as well as by the hospitality and friendliness of the people they met. Familiarisation visits such as these are extremely important, as they help both the travel agents and journalists to know exactly what we have to offer potential Swedish and Danish holidaymakers.
