Overseas Media Fly in for Latest Launch of Titanic

13 Sep 2012

Twenty-nine journalists from around the world were in Belfast last weekend, as guests of Tourism Ireland, for the FOX Home Entertainment launch of Titanic on Blu-ray and 3D DVD. The launch at Titanic Belfast was also attended by Titanic director James Cameron and producer Jon Landau.

In addition to attending the movie launch, the journalists – from Brazil, Russia, US and Europe – had the opportunity to explore and learn all about Belfast’s connections with Titanic. As well as a tour of Titanic Belfast, the group sampled the Titanic walking tour, taking in the Pump House and Thompson Dock and a visit to the TITANICa Exhibition at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.

Mark Henry, Tourism Ireland’s central marketing director, said: “The attendance of so many overseas journalists in Belfast for this FOX Home Entertainment launch of Titanic and the opportunity to meet James Cameron and Jon Landau, provided a wonderful occasion to highlight Belfast’s unique connections to the Titanic. The stories these journalists will write will be read and seen all over the world, showcasing the wonderful and unique tourism product we have available in Belfast and Northern Ireland.

“The superb programme of new attractions, events and historic anniversaries taking place in Northern Ireland this year presents us with a significant opportunity to deliver a new message about Northern Ireland. Tourism Ireland’s promotions around the world continue to capitalise on this unprecedented opportunity, highlighting the strengths of Northern Ireland – iconic experiences, our warm, friendly people and great value for money.”

The visit is part of Tourism Ireland’s extensive overseas publicity drive which is highlighting Titanic, Belfast and Northern Ireland to print, broadcast and online media across the world throughout this special year of ni2012.
