Co Meath and one of its finest golf courses played host to nine influential golf journalists from Germany this week – including representatives of publications like the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (national daily newspaper) and GOLF TIME (magazine). The journalists were here, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland, to experience our world-class golf at first-hand, for articles they are researching about golf holidays here. One of the highlights of their visit was a round of golf on the Jack Nicklaus championship course – and home of last year’s Solheim Cup – at Killeen Castle, near Dunsany. The journalists also enjoyed a round of golf on the course at the Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links.
Golf is a major focus for Tourism Ireland in Germany, and in other markets around the world, and the organisation has a busy schedule of promotions in place to grow the number of golf visitors to Ireland. Golf is the world’s largest sports-related travel market and, using the headline ‘Golf in Ireland – Time to Play’, Tourism Ireland has been working hard this year to drive home the message that a golfing holiday here is about much more than a round of 18 holes – the combination of Ireland’s world-class golf and our unique brand of hospitality plays a key role in attracting golfers to come here.

Germany is the world’s largest outbound travel market and the third-largest source of visitors to the island of Ireland, delivering about 432,000 visitors last year.
