Scandinavian Writers Discover Londonderry

02 Aug 2011

A group of Scandinavian travel writers took time out to visit Londonderry during a recent stay in Northern Ireland.  Carefully selected and invited here by Tourism Ireland in Copenhagen, their itinerary was designed by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.

The visitors from Norway, Sweden and Denmark enjoyed a guided tour of the historic walled city of Derry, including the Tower Museum, before travelling along the Causeway Coastal Route to visit Dunluce Castle, the famous Old Bushmills Distillery and the spectacular Giant’s Causeway.  Whilst in Belfast, the writers took part in a walking tour with a difference – the Belfast Bred Tour – where a ‘chef’ from the Titanic led the group on a trail discovering the historic and culinary delights of the city.

Aoife Kernan, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for the Nordic region, said: “We are delighted to welcome these writers from Norway, Sweden and Denmark to Northern Ireland.  Familiarisation visits such as these are extremely important as they help build awareness of the wonderful tourism product on offer in Northern Ireland.  The aim is that when these writers return home they are better equipped to put into words what a holiday in this part of the world entails, thereby encouraging more Scandinavians to come here and experience it for themselves.”
